Control Acidity and Reverse Tooth Decay
September 8, 2012 Tooth Decay
Did you know it is possible to reverse tooth decay? Not very many dentists believe that you can reverse tooth decay, so when you start to do it, the dentist you normally go to may be shocked.
If you can control the level of acidity in your mouth, it’s pretty easy to reverse tooth decay. Acidic mouths are much more susceptible to cavities and tooth decay. Many people develop an acidic mouth by eating way too much candy or drinking acidic drinks on a regular basis. Hard candy, dried fruit, and soda can be extremely bad for your teeth. When the sugars in these foods are metabolized, they are converted into acids almost instantly.
Acids can demineralize your teeth very quickly. Your teeth are stronger when calcium and phosphorus ions are added to them. But they are made weaker when these ions are removed. The process of removing calcium and phosphorus ions from your teeth is called demineralization. Having acidic mouth makes your teeth demineralize. As your teeth demineralize, they become weaker and weaker. Eventually, they can lose their structural integrity.
If you want to have really strong teeth, you have to control level of acidity in your mouth. After eating something sweet, rinse your mouth out with water or milk. This will help to cut the acidity right away.
Trying keep plaque, tartar, and calculus from building up on your teeth. If they build up, and they will amplify the effects of the acid and demineralize your teeth even faster.
How to Get Rid of Acidity
There are many ways to get rid of acidity naturally. My favorite way to do this is to chew Xylitol Gum. Almost the instant that you put it in your mouth, it stops acid dead in its tracks. It helps to restore your mouth to its original pH. It even helps to get rid of some of the bacteria causing cavities that inhabit your teeth. Xylitol is a sugar substitute. It only contains 2.4 cal per gram. Sugar has four. The reason Xylitol is so beneficial is because it is non-fermentable. This means that even though bacteria will try to digest it, they just can’t. If it can’t be digested by the bacteria, it won’t turn into an acid and demineralize your teeth.
Try to substitute foods that contain a lot of sugars, with foods that contain less sugar. Try and substitute processed foods for more natural or organic foods. Not only will they taste better, but they also help you to get rid of your cavities and reverse tooth decay naturally.
